Our Story

Moody Cat Press was founded with a passion for exceptional storytelling and a deep appreciation for the indie author journey. As an indie author, educator, and public speaking coach with a background in psychology, English, history, and religious studies, I understand the challenges writers face in bringing their stories to life.

With years of experience guiding students, authors, and speakers, I created MCP to be more than just a service—it’s a partnership. My goal is to provide indie authors with the tools, expertise, and support they need to produce high-quality books that captivate readers.

Every story matters, and at Moody Cat Press, we are dedicated to helping you shape, refine, and publish your work with confidence. Whether you need editing, cover design, book coaching, formatting, or publishing assistance, we’re here to make the process seamless and rewarding.

Your voice deserves to be heard. Let’s bring your vision to life together.

FAQs

Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately not.

Due to how time-intensive our work and limited our availability is, once your project begins, no monies will be returned (whether we’ve begun work or not). By paying the non-refundable deposit, you are thereby taking a slot from another potential client.

BUT, if you need to push back your timeline, we will hold your deposit until such time you need our services. That’s not a problem. The balance will be paid then prior to work start.

How long does a project take?

Well, that depends on what you’re looking for.

Just a blurb? It might take a few days.

Line editing? Might take 4-6 weeks.

How long a project takes depends on the types and number of paid services, word count/intensity of project, time of year, and level of feedback requested/required for a client.

What if I need to reach you outside of business hours?

Don’t stress!

Support and satisfaction are paramount to us at Moody Cat Press, and we want you to be happy! Whatever the issue is, we’ll do our best to help you as soon as we’re available to follow-up.

While we love our clients, we do have a family too. We are available by email, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. EST to 5 p.m. EST.

If you need to reach us outside of that timeframe, please shoot us an email, and we will get back to you as soon as we are in the office.

Coaching clients who are enrolled in our comprehensive package have access to us on an extended schedule (6 am to 8 pm EST).

What genres do you specialize in?

Fiction: Fantasy, Horror, Thriller/Crime, Mystery

Non-Fiction: Psychological, Self-Help, Religious, Spiritual, History

What types of covers do you specialize in?

Typographic and photographic.

What writing styles do you specialize in?

My writing style and coaching style work best with those who want an evocative voice for their characters.

While I personally write in a gritty first-person present (and I will likely never change), I assist clients with all POVs and tones. Whether that’s a slow, creeping dread or a fast-paced, in-your-face tone, I’ve got you covered.

I’ve never been coached before… How does book coaching work?

It’s like if you mixed your best friend with your English teacher… all the while getting the push you need from your drill-sergeant life coach.

I provide the prompts, exercises, and education you need to propel yourself forward as an author. We dive deep into your habits and practices while we stick to a set writing/publishing schedule to get you where you want to go.

That being said, if you don’t put in the work, listen to the feedback, and try to grow, you won’t get anywhere and our coaching sessions won’t help you progress like you’re expecting.

All creative rights are retained by you, the author, on your writing project. I am just here to help you grow.

How Does It Work?

Whether it’s self-publishing or traditional, the publishing process can be complicated. At Moody Cat Press, we don’t want it to be. Here’s what you can expect when you work with us:
  1. Initial Inquiry & Consultation – Start by reaching out through our contact form here. Let us know which services you’re interested in and a bit about your book. We’ll review your request and schedule a free consultation to discuss your needs.

  2. Service Selection & Quote – Based on our discussion, we’ll recommend the best service package for your project. You’ll receive a detailed quote outlining pricing, deliverables, and timelines.

  3. Contract & Payment – Once you’re ready to move forward, we’ll send over a service agreement outlining the scope of work. Depending on the service, a 25% to 50% deposit will be required before we begin.

  4. Project Kickoff – After payment is processed, we’ll get to work! You’ll receive clear instructions on how to submit your manuscript or design preferences, and we’ll stay in touch throughout the process. Depending on the service selected, this could be in the form of weekly emails or coaching meetings over Zoom.

  5. Revisions & Finalization – If your service includes revisions (such as cover design or editing), we’ll provide drafts for your feedback. We make necessary adjustments to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the final product.

  6. Delivery & Next Steps – Once your project is complete, we’ll send your files in the appropriate formats, along with any additional guidance on publishing, marketing, or next steps.

  7. Ongoing Support – Even after your project is finished, we’re here to help! If you have questions about your book’s launch, formatting tweaks, or publishing logistics, we offer continued support.
